Hot Lunch
St. Bruno currently has a dedicated group of parents who work diligently
to provide a "hot lunch" on Wednesdays.
A hot lunch form is sent home the week prior to the scheduled 'hot lunch Wednesday" letting the student/parents know what is on the menu.  There is a nominal charge and the form must be returned the next day.  Payment must be sent with the order form and please use a separate form for each child.  A beverage is not included..

It is imperative that we place our order at least a week in advance and most
food providers require payment in advance.

Please make sure that you pack a lunch for your child if they report to

DayCare right after school on Fridays and early dismissal days.

Health
St. Bruno is fortunate to currently have a trained medical assistant on staff 8:30-1:30pm - Monday-Thursday 8:30am-1pm on Friday
Mrs. Garcia would like to mention a few Health Room policies that are important to keep in mind.
First and foremost, it is imperative that your child’s health and safety records are complete and on file prior to the first day of school; accidents can and do happen those first few days and we must be prepared with emergency phone numbers, health history, etc.
Please ask permission before you list a person as an emergency contact, as they must be willing, able and available to collect and care for your ill child if you are unavailable.
A list of required immunizations, including a TB skin test, and a Health Exam for School Entry form that your physician must fill out, is available below, or if you are a new family, it is included in the “new family” packet.  It is a California State Law that these elements are complete and on file to permit entrance to kindergarten.
Please review your child's immunization card and be sure that all requirements are met before submitting to the school office!

Students transferring to St. Bruno from another school into first grade and up require a complete copy of health records from the previous school.
If the student is from out of state, a new TB skin test is required for all grades.
The Health Department conducts a full audit of our records in early September, and we must be in full compliance at that time or your child will be excluded from school until his/her records are complete. Please appreciate the importance of this issue; it is truly in the best interest of all our children.
If I will be dispensing any medication to your child during school hours, both the child’s physician and parent must fill out an Archdiocese of Los Angeles Medication Authorization and Permission form.  This form is also available below, in the school office, or if you are a new family, it is included in the “new family” packet.
This is also a California State Law; all pediatricians and physicians should be aware of this by now. Instructions written on a prescription slip, slip of paper, etc., are not acceptable.  All doctor’s offices are required to stock this form.  One form for each medication is required.
This applies to both prescription and over-the-counter meds including Tylenol, cough drops, eye drops, and allergy products, such as inhalers.
If your child suffers from a chronic condition such as asthma, allergies, migraines, or severe menstrual cramps, I suggest this form be completed before school starts with the duration indicated as “2009-2010 school year.”   It is also beneficial if a spare inhaler is kept in my office for frequent users.
No student under any circumstances is to carry or self-administer any type of medication unless the correct form is on file in the Health Room.

All Health Room information is strictly confidential, including contact information, medical history, diagnoses, behavior, conversations and information of a personal nature to both students and parents. This confidentiality is strictly maintained at all times by me and all parent volunteers in my absence.

The Flu virus is everywhere and it is safe to say we have all been exposed to it in our daily lives!

It is important as parents to do your homework, educate yourselves, and be comfortable with the decision to vaccinate or not to vaccinate for the H1N1 Influenza.  Do not avoid it out of fear or misinformation! The very best source for unbiased and accurate information is www.cdc.gov.

This is the authority all schools nationwide.

According to the CDC, notification to school parents regarding students with the virus is not necessary unless 5 students are concurrently diagnosed in any one classroom with H1N1.

If this were to happen, we have guidelines from the CDC to follow which include notification and active screening of all students, among other things.

There are daily changes and updates from the CDC regarding H1N1 and it remains a very fluid situation as the flu season progresses, which is why it is important that you actively seek information as parents.

It is generally assumed that nearly all flu cases are H1N1 now.

Many doctors are not even testing, but just immediately begin antiviral treatment such as Tamiflu if symptoms indicate as such.

If you or a family memeber test postitive for H1N1, the treatment would be the same.

The CDC FAQ page states, "Most people with flu symptoms this season will not require testing for 2009 H1N1 because the test results usually do not change how you are treated.  As of September 2009, more than 99% of circulating influenza viruses in the United States, are 2009 H1N1.  Therefore, at this time if your health care provider determines that you have the flu, you most likely have 2009 H1N1."

As a school community, we remain vigilant with widely available and frequent use of antibacterial hand gel, EPA registered sanitizing wipes for classrooms and common areas, ample tissue supplies and continuing education with students regarding frequent effective hand washing, covering coughs and catching sneezes.  We are prepared if the situation warrants further action with N95 rated respirator masks, thermometers and our Emergency Telephone Tree protocol in place.  Please support and supplement thes vital actions in the home as well and we can get through this flu season safely!
