B Football News - November 7th

The Tigers are the CYO “B” Big Ten Conference Champions after defeating St. Linus this past Saturday by the score of 27 to 0!  The Tigers finished the conference schedule with a record of 7 wins and no losses.  The offense averaged 32 points per game in the 7 games played, and the defense only gave up 6 points in those games.  Totally awesome!  What’s more, they always displayed good sportsmanship.

The Tigers also played in the St. Anthony Flag Football Tournament this past weekend because the St. Paul Tournament was postponed.  The Tigers brought home the first place trophy after defeating Resurrection by the score of 26 to 6!  Calvin Salcido was named MVP for the Tigers.  The team was also involved in a nail biting game against St. Louise de Marillac.  The Tigers were down by two touchdowns early in the game, and both teams went back and forth the rest of the game.  The Tigers had to start from their end of the field with twenty-six seconds left in the game, and down by two points.  The Tigers advanced to the 10 yard line with six seconds remaining, and scored on the last play to win the game.  Final score, St. Bruno 40 and St. Louise de Marillac 36!

The Tigers finished the 2011 season on a high note by taking the third place trophy in the St. Paul Tournament.  The team defeated St. Charles by the score of 40 to 12, lost to St. Hedwig by the score of 6 to 24, and won against St. Gregory the Great by the score of 22 to 8.  The team had a very successful season winning first place in their conference, and winning first, second, and third place at three tournaments.  The players displayed good sportsmanship, leadership, teamwork, great work ethic, and made huge strides in the game of flag football.  The sixth graders are ready to move up to the A Team while the fifth graders are eager to take over the reins on the B Team next year.

Coaches Manny Pizarro, Greg Salcido, and Sid Fierro, along with the players and parents, would like to thank and acknowledge the dedication and incredible work of our Team Mom, Donna Salcido.  The coaches would also like to thank the following players for their outstanding contributions this season:  Kevin Alfaro, Matthew Bustamante, Stephen Camacho, Anthony Castillo, Adam Checkcinco, Ronald D’Aiuto, Logan Duran, Ryan Elliott, Jason Fierro, Ronan Hayes, Desmond Landin, Gabriel Martinez, Jere McDonald, A.J. Oddo, Adam Pizarro, C.J. Rodriguez, Calvin Salcido, Mateo Sampedro, and Dylan Sweet.  There is high hope for the future of these young men.  Go Tigers!

"Coaches Manny, Greg and Sid:
